Since the dawn of time, long before the discovery of fire or kicking it’s first wheel, mankind has struggled with one big question. THE question. That question is: “What is the best way to store pajamas during the day?”
Joking, obviously.
BUT! If you have been lacking pajama storage ideas, fear not!
After millennia, mankind is attempting to crawl out of the darkness and into the light to FINALLY solve the riddle that has plagued it for all eternity.
Here are the top best places to store your PJs during daylight hours, as well as the WORST.
Where the heck do people store their pajamas?
Have you ever wondered what other people do with their PJs during daylight hours?
I sure have!
I went to Professor Google to ask but came away with unsatisfactory answers as to how people organize their pajamas.
I swore to myself that someday if I started a blog, I was going to address this topic — to bring this issue into the light, as it were.
Here are 10 pajama storage ideas, ranked from worst to best
On my heroic quest to find enlightenment, I encountered many surprising pajama storage ideas along the way.
Here are the ten most common ways people store their pajamas, ranked from worst to best
This ranking takes into account both practicality and messiness level – the lower levels are the least practical and/or messiest and the best are the most practical and organized.
Starting fresh in the morning will help you stay organized and be more productive throughout the day!
1. No storage required – sleep naked
While this might seem extremely practical, I am not sure it’s that comfortable.
Outside of movies and TV shows, I have never met anyone who sleeps in the buff IRL.
2. In the hamper
Some people simply toss their pajamas into the hamper every morning, wearing a new pair every single night!
While this method might contain the mess and reduce hands-on maintenance of your PJs, it isn’t very practical.
Laundering your clothing this frequently will definitely wear them out quickly and also increases the amount of money you spend on things like utility costs, laundry detergent, and dryer sheets.
In short, it’s not very frugal!
3. Tossed on the floor
Again, while this definitely gets 10/10 easiness points in terms of messiness this is one of the worst!
Nothing makes a room look untidy like heaps of clothing on the floor.
4. Laying on the bed
This is only slightly better than throwing clothing on the floor.
5. Laying on top of the dresser
Getting warmer.
6. Under a bed pillow
Out of sight, out of mind?
It is definitely easy to hide pajamas underneath pillows after changing clothes in the am, but if you are one of those people (like me) that gets bothered by things being not quite right, this is probably going to itch at your brain throughout the day.
7. On a command hook
Okay, now we are talking about real solutions!
Command hooks are always in a pro-organizer’s top-secret clutter fighting arsenal!
They are easy to install, easy to remove, extremely affordable, and can be put almost anywhere. To store pajamas with a command hook just consider where you want to place the hook, clean the wall, peel, and stick.
Here are some places you might consider placing your hooks:
- Inside a closet door
- Inside a cabinet door
- Behind a bathroom door

#8. Inside a dresser drawer
Why use a nightstand to store your PJs?
If you choose a nice nightstand like this super cute modern one with two drawers, you can use it, not only to hold your clock and knickknacks but also to store your pajamas as well.
Neatly folded, of course!
9. Inside a dresser drawer (with or without drawer organizer)
Not everyone has a nightstand, but most people have dressers!
Another easy idea to keep your pajamas nice and tidy is to store them inside a dresser drawer.
You can simply put them inside or use a lovely dresser drawer organizer like this one, which is what we currently used to store our PJs.
10. Inside a lidded basket
IMHO, one of the best ways to keep your pajamas neatly tucked away during the day is by putting them in an attractive lidded basket.
No one would EVER guess your pajamas were hiding inside these chic and adorable little lidded baskets!
Depending on the size of your family (and your pajamas) you may need a larger basket. The blue basket below is how we stored our pajamas for many years!
Do you have another way to hide your pajamas? Comment below!
I hope you found a pajama storage idea that works for you! Give those PJs the TLC they deserve and keep them organized!

Great storage solution
This is so smart! I’m totally one of the “store them on the bed” people. Not pretty. This is so much smarter, not to mention, gorgeous. Thanks for the awesome new idea!
Thanks Marie, I definitely had my “troll face” on when I was writing this one 😉 The basket is truly gorgeous…and the lid also makes an awesome hat if you happen to be a toddler. #protip.
Cute idea. I just store mine on a hook on the linen closet door in the master bathroom. Not too creative, I guess!
That seems like a surprisingly common way!
So cute! I love this. I was totally thinking you had to cram stuff in a tiny hole in the top! Maybe I need a nap! haha
Hahaha, that’s funny! Well, you have been sick…hope you are feeling better!
Great idea. Thanks for sharing at the To Grandma’s House We Go DIY, Crafts, Recipes and More link party. I pinned this. Hope to see you again next week.
Thanks Sheri! See you next week. <3
I love this! Great idea. When I was a kid I had a “pajama pig”- a stuffed pig with a PJ pocket in the back to keep them in. But this is a good solution for grown-ups.
Pajama pig sounds ADORABLE! I agree this is a great solution for big kids (I might still want a pajama pig though).
Love this idea, now if I can get my husband to use something like this instead of throwing it all on the chair that would be great. Thanks for sharing on To Grandma’s House We Go!
Thanks Chas, getting the husbands on board is the hardest part! See you next week. 🙂
When I was a kid I had what I called my pajama dog. It was a stuffed dog with a zippered compartment on the bottom where you put your pjs in and than it just laid on the bed for the day. Wish I could find something similar for my grandkids
Nancy, I thought I had seen these but I couldn’t find a single one when I went looking! I feel like maybe I saw it on QVC ages and ages ago. I will keep my eyes peeled and add it to this list if I find one!
